The incident happened in Putnam County on Monday, April 24 at midnight, when Carmel Police received a report from a resident who said he had been assaulted by an unknown man in Mahopac in the area of Miller Road, according to Lieutenant Michael Bodo.

An officer then responded to the scene and spoke with the victim, who added that he had spotted the man stumbling down the road and had confronted him in an attempt to stop him from driving.

An argument then began between the two men and the suspect hit the victim in the head with a beer bottle, causing a cut, according to Bodo.

A second person then appeared and drove the suspect away from the area.

After getting a description of the vehicle, an officer then found it in the area of Route 6 and Croton Falls Road and took the suspect into custody without incident.

The suspect, identified as 54-year-old Carmel resident Julian Chulo, was charged with third-degree assault and will appear in Carmel Justice Court on Tuesday, May 2.
